*JOSEPH LANG BEST QUALITY OVER-UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR HEAVY GAME OR PIGEON GUN WITH CASE. SN 16310. (ca. 1921) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 32″ Barrels with narrow raised matted ventilated rib have ivory mid bead and front, and are engraved “Joseph Lang & Son.” and “102. New Bond Street, London.” on either side of rib on top bbl. Ejector bolsters have sprays of scroll engraving. Bottom bbl is stamped “J. L. & S” with SN and London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Robust sidelock action features non-automatic safety (“S” inlaid in gold), non-selective single trigger, and Lang’s “keylock” detachable lock system. Bottom of action is also engraved “Lang’s Patent Ejector”. Lockplates are engraved “Joseph Lang & Son.” Small bow trigger guard has matching engraving with SN on tang. Three piece forend has 2 pieces mounted to bbl. Removable piece has Anson release with wood and checkering matching remainder of gun. Forend is stamped with SN, and is engraved “For 2-3/4 Shell” on inside of iron. Bore diameter: top -.729, bottom -.732. Bore restrictions: top -.018, bottom -.036. Brown leather case with stitched leather corners is lined in maroon cloth, with paper Joseph Lang & Son label. Accessories include the key for the locks, 2-pc ebony cleaning rod, pair of snap caps marked “Fosters Country Sports”, and two keys. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain nearly all of a London quality re-black, with engraving slightly washed. Action retains 50-60% original case color, silvered on beads and sharp edges. Lockplates retain 60-70% case color, fading to gray at rear. Trigger guard and top lever retain most of their original blue, silvered on edges, thumbpiece, and at grip. Stocks retain what appears to be their original oil finish (that has been added to over the years). Checkering is slightly worn, and has not been re-cut. There are two small cracks starting on either side of bottom rear of forend. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. Bores are excellent. Newer case is very fine with a few minor marks on exterior leather. Interior cloth is excellent with a few minor abrasions from contact with gun. Label has some stains and scuffs. Partitions are tight. Accessories are fine. A very fine, best quality gun, listing for over $1000.00 in the 1930’s. 4-40227 MGM12 (17,500-27,500)
