*CASED MERKEL MODEL 280/360SL DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 410/28 ga. SN 480864. Beautiful full sidelock dbl with two sets of 28″ bbls with 410 bbls choked FULL/MOD & the 28 ga. bbls choked MOD/IMP-CYL. Both sets of bbls have tapered concave matted ribs with sgl bead, Greener crossbolt rib extensions, dbl lugs, ejectors & dbl triggers. Both sets of bbls are marked at the chamber end of ribs “NO. 18 OF 100”. The 28 ga. bbls are marked on right side “280SL .28 GA” and it has a gold “1” on top of the rib extension. The 410 bbls are marked on right side “360SL .410 GA” and it has a “2” in gold on rib extension. Receiver, lockplates & forend irons are all coin finished with lockplates having beautifully detailed, relief engraved, full-plate, game scenes of a German shorthair pointer & three pheasant in a field scene on left side & a fox with four ducks in a marsh scene on right side & receiver having about 50% coverage fine foliate arabesque patterns. Left lockplate has engraver’s initials “R.W.”. Opening lever, top tang, trigger guard & forend irons are engraved to match. Mounted with extremely beautiful, marbled honey & chocolate French or Circassian walnut with two checkered splinter forearms & straight stock, 14-3/8″ over a Merkel black composition buttplate. Accompanied by a January 2002 Merkel price list that lists this shotgun at $11,995.00. Also accompanied by its orig, green, pebble grain leather, green ultra suede, lined trunk case with brown leather trim containing a 3-pc wood cleaning rod & square oil bottle. Also accompanied by its orig green 1-pc cardboard box which contains a Year 2000 catalogue, owner’s manual, warranty, other papers & orig packing materials. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-1/4″. Bore restrictions: unable to gage 410 bbls; 28 ga. bbls: left – .029, right – .014. Unable to gage wall thickness on 410 or 28 ga. bbls. Bore diameter: 410 bbls: left – .377, right – .392; 28 ga. bbls: left – .533, right – .542. Weight with 28 ga. bbls: 5 lbs. 11.52 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. As new, retains virtually all of its orig factory finish to both metal & wood. The 410 bbls on left side near muzzle have a series of lightly etched spots from cleaned rust; otherwise both sets of bbls have bright shiny blue. Right side of receiver has a couple of small cleaned spots, otherwise receiver & lockplates are clean & bright. Wood is sound with one small nick on left side of buttstock; otherwise all three pieces retain virtually all of their bright orig varnish. Crisp mechanics, brilliant shiny bores. Case is equally new.
