*CASED CUSTOM ANGELO BEE ENGRAVED MERKEL MODEL 280SL DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 28 ga. SN 481229. Spectacular & wonderful dainty full sidelock dbl with 28″ bbls choked FULL/MOD with tapered concave matted rib, sgl gold bead with a panel at rear end marked in gold “280SL 28 GA”. It has Greener crossbolt rib extension with dbl lugs, ejectors & dbl triggers. Receiver & lockplates are marvelously engraved in typical Angelo Bee style in great detail with four raised gold quail on left side, four raised gold flying dove on right side, two raised gold flying woodcock on bottom & a raised gold retriever on trigger bow. All vignettes are in fantastic detail with wonderful background scenery in all of them. Left lockplate is signed “ABEE”. Lockplates, front sides of receiver & around bottom vignette have fine wire border. Rest of receiver, opening lever, top tang, trigger guard, forend iron & 1-1/2″ up bbl have Mr. Bee’s beautiful foliate arabesque pattern engravings with punch dot background. Fences have deep relief oak leaf & acorn patterns. Receiver, lockplates & forend iron are finished in beautiful dark case colors. Mounted with spectacular, very fine grained, Circassian walnut with checkered splinter forearm & straight stock, 14-1/4″ over orig black composition buttplate. Accompanied by an invoice from GSI Inc. (the importer) dated “8-14-02” shipping this shotgun to Mr. Bee. Description on invoice identifies this shotgun & further states “This in-the-white Merkel is fully donated by GSI/Merkel for embellishment by world renowned engraver Angelo Bee–This firearm will be auctioned as a fundraiser for the Heritage Fund @ Grants Farm-St. Louis Sept. 2002-RPY”. Also accompanied by its orig dark brown leather green canvas lined trunk case compartmented for all the parts which also contains an orig owner’s manual. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .022, right – .014. Unable to gage wall thickness. Bore diameter: left – .534, right – .541. Weight: 5 lbs. 12.8 oz. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine. As new, appears to be unfired since finishing after engraving. Bbl blue is strong & bright and case colors are brilliant and even throughout. Wood is sound & retains virtually all of its custom finish with one small scratch on right side & some light rubs on left side. Crisp mechanics, brilliant shiny bores.
