Very finely marbled and slightly figured Circassian walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/4″ over checkered wood butt on 1-3/4″ wood extension, the joint of which is so cleverly matched and stained as to be nearly invisible, only given away by some later shrinkage making glue line visible. Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.731. Bore restrictions: left -.024, right -.012. Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Weight: 7 lbs. 3.5 oz, LOP 15-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Copy of page from Don A. Masters book ATKIN GRANT AND LANG with history of this gun made during Atkins first year of trading, and indicating that this gun was made for Henry Callander and was indeed a 12 bore pigeon gun with SN 178. CONDITION: Excellent as refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of their re-black. Engraving has been picked up. Matting on rib is washed. Action is polished bright. Engraving is still relatively sharp, but showing some wear and striations on bottom of action. Lever, trigger guard, and hammers are blued. Blue on lever and trigger guard is beginning to brown, with some silver on high point. Hammers are beginning to silver on spurs. Stock retains virtually all of a very well done hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering is re-cut and sharp. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Bores are excellent. 4-40549 MGM44 (4,000-6,000)
