VERY RARE DANGERFIELD & LEFEVER CAPE GUN. Cal. 14 Ga X 40-50 Sharps Bottle Neck. SN 32. This is one of only a very few of these American made combination guns known today. Beautiful & rare early Cape gun with 28-1/4″ bbls that have a smooth flat rib with dovetailed front sight having a homemade ivory bead with an elevation adjustable, rib mounted, rear sight. Rib is marked with the makers name & address. It has dolls head extension with second bite & extractor. It has non-rebounding hammers on front action locks with the opening catch mounted on the top tang. The top tang also has a screw-in, adjustable, tiny, lollipop tang sight. It is mounted with nicely figured slab sawed American walnut with smooth horn insert, semi-schnable tip forearm and checkered pistol grip stock 14″ over a smooth steel butt plate. Grip swells out to a scallop shell carved cap. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbls retains bout 90% orig brown finish with a small clean spot on the rib and some light wear on the left bbl. Receiver & lock plates retain most of their orig case hardening with faint colors here & there being mostly a silvered mottled patina. Wood is sound with a few minor nicks & scratches and one small gouge on the right side of the butt stock and overall retains most of its orig varnish. Mechanics are fine.
