*SCARCE L.C. SMITH EAGLE GRADE LONG RANGE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN RE47110. Scarce higher grade L.C. Smith, one of only 580 made in period 1913-1945. It has 32″ Nitro Steel bbls choked FULL/FULL with 2-3/4″ chambers, tapered concave matted rib, dbl ivory beads, crossbolt rib extension, ejectors & Hunter One-trigger. Rib has a gold band at rib extension joint. Mounted with an unusual, highly figured, shell grain, American walnut stock with very high comb with a leather cheek pad, 14″ over an old leather covered pad. Stock is matching numbered. Receiver & lockplates are nicely engraved with a flying pheasant on left lockplate & a flying goose on right lockplate surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns. Vignettes have stippled background with stippling on fences, over top of receiver and around eagle on opening lever with stippled panels on bottom front of receiver. Safety is full checkered. Bottom of bbl lug is engraved to match and has “LONG RANGE” stamped over engraving. Right bbl flat is stamped “CHAMBERS / 3 / INCHES” and there is a “3” engraved on bottom of rib extension. Careful measuring discloses the chambers to be 2-3/4″. Bore diameter: left – .730, right – .730. Bore restrictions: left – .047, right – .039. Wall thickness: left – .035, right – .033. Drop at heel: 1-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 9 lbs. 3.84 oz. Accompanied by Cody Firearms Letter identifying this shotgun as Eagle grade with 32” bbls, regular frame, ejectors, one trigger & beavertail forearm. Shipped July 6, 1922 to J.W. Thrasher. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbls retain 85-90% strong orig blue, thin at muzzle end with fine pinpoints of rust about midpoint on both bbls. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their orig case colors, moderately faded, thin on back edges of lockplates. Stock has a hairline back of right lockplate with some minor chipping around lockplates and a hairline around front edge of comb, otherwise wood is sound and retains most of an old professionally restored finish.
