WORLD WAR I MARINE AVIATOR’S GROUP. Attributed to 2nd Lt. Roswell Davis, a pilot in the 10th squadron, First Marine Aviation Force, Northern Bombing Group. The Marine Day Squadrons flew 57 bombing raids over German occupied Belgium in DH-4 and DH-9 aircraft. Collection consists of Davis’s 4-button calf-length dark brown leather flying coat, olive-drab flannel lining, lower slash pockets, and detachable belt. Davis’s First Marine Aviation Force Service certificate measures 10-1/2” x 17-1/2”; 2 World War I Marine officer collar devices, both left side; miniature Naval aviator wing with pin back fastener marked “Maynard Miami 10K” and engraved to “Mother”, measuring 1-9/16”. 1919 Air Service wing/prop device, measuring 15/16”; 3” set of World War 2 pilot’s wings. Xerox copies of photographs of Davis in uniform, standing beside his airplane, a 1935 Air Corps certificate, a 37-page copy of extracts from his letters to his family while in flight training.
