Self opening action. 28″ Chopper lump steel bbls w/ file cut narrow game rib, cross bolt extension, w/ relief engraving and gold “2” at breech end are engraved “Von Lengerke & Detmold” on right bbl, and “U. S. Agents New – York” on the left. BBl flats are stamped w/ Belgian nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers and “Francotte Choke Bore”, as well as Francotte’s crowned AF logo. Bottoms of bbls are engraved “Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Pressed Steel” w/ tube nos. “53569” and “53570”. Bbls are fitted w/ Holland patent self opening mechanism. Action has dual under lugs, Greener cross bolt third fastener, bushed strikers, side clips, and is stamped on water table SN, proofs,”Made under Patent NO. 308906″ and “A. Francotte Maker & Patentee Liege Belgium”. Action and lock plates are profusely engraved w/ beautifully executed high relief acanthus and floral open scroll w/ finely stippled background. Bottom of action is engraved “Aug. Francotte & Cie.” in riband. Tumbler ends have raised rib cocking indicators. Single beaded trigger guard has matching scroll w/ SN “85859” in relief. Top lever has no. “2” inlaid in gold. “S” is inlaid in gold on top tang. Very nicely marbled straight grip European walnut buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over a tan leather covered pad, w/ silver oval w/ initials “S. M. B.”, drop points, and 24 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. Beavertail forend has Anson release, no. “2” inlaid in gold in relief engraved tip. Wraparound checkering matches buttstock. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.730.. Bore restrictions: left -.028, right -.003. Wall thickness: left -.023, right -.022. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs 9oz. Dark leather CASE has leather corners, w/ brass plate screwed to top, engraved “Sam M. Boykin, Jr. 3805 Forest Glen Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35213” and is stamped in upper left hand corner “Deluxe Francotte 12ga 28 in. 85859”. Interior is lined in maroon cloth. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain virtually all professional re-blue, w/ engraving somewhat washed. Action and side locks retain most of their orig muted case color. Stocks retain nearly all of their oil finish, w/ few nicks and dings. Checkering is clear and sharp. Bores are bright and shiny, w/ no visible imperfections. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works well. Screws show some use. CASE leather is smooth, looks like it’s been treated w/ black dye, one corner is detaching, straps and handle are missing.
