SCARCE TIN PRINCE ALBERT TOBACCO ADVERTISING SIGN WITH CHIEF JOSEPH. Chief Joseph of the Nez Perez was one of the most brilliant Indian tacticians of all times. During the late 19th Century, he led his entire tribe with women and children across the Northwest part of the United States as they attempted to flee to Canada. They were intercepted on numerous occasions by the might of the U.S. Calvary, and in all cases, Joseph and his small band of warriors were able to best the U.S. Military. After long exhausting flight, Joseph and his tribe thinking they had finally made it to Canada, stopped to rest. Unfortunately, they were still in U.S. territory, and they were finally captured and sent off to an Indian Reservation. This tin image depicts a bold image of this mighty chief in full head gear. This image was used to market Prince Albert’s tobacco. SIZE: (including frame) 22” wide x 28” high. CONDITION: A couple of nail holes in the image, and various scratches over the surface.
