FRANK HENNESSEY (Canadian, 1893-1941) “EARLY SPRING ACROSS THE VALLEY”. Pastel Housed in its original carved gilt frame having artist plaque and with wood liner & glass Vose Galleries, Boston & Watson Art Galleries, Montreal labels on verso Signed lower right “Hennessey” A well known Canadian painter, draftsman and illustrator, Frank Hennessey spent his life in Ottawa, Ontario. Hennessey was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and a fellow of the English Royal Society of Arts. His artwork was internationally exhibited and is included in museum collections including the National Gallery of Canada. While his fine art scenes of Canada have been enthusiastically collected, his illustrations introduced him to the general public. Travelling with Captain Bernier on an Arctic exploration as an assistant naturalist and artist while still a teenager, Hennessey went on to illustrate such popular nature guides as Birds of Canada and Canadian Land Birds among others.
