*MATCHED PAIR OF A. A. BROWN SIDELOCK EJECTOR SELF-OPENING GAME GUNS WITH CASE. SN 79689/ 79690. (1978) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Chopper lump barrels with Churchill ribs are engraved “A. A. Brown & Sons. “Supreme – de – Luxe”” and “Alvechurch. Birmingham. England.” on tops. Breech ends of bbls have one inch pyramids of shaded open scroll, with “1” and “2” inlaid in gold on breech end of rib for each gun, respectively. Bbl flats show Birmingham nitro proofs at “.729”, “2-3/4″”, and “3-1/4 tons per square inch”. Bottom of left bbl is stamped with SN. Bbls are fitted with gold-plated Holland and Holland patent self-opening device. Coin finished Holland and Holland style sidelock actions feature automatic safeties (“Safe” inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and H & H style detachable locks. Lock internals, bridle pins, cocking levers, and striker bushings are gold-plated. Bridle is scroll engraved. The A. A. Brown and Sons logo is stamped on trigger plates, and is visible through rear lump mortise in actions, and inside of lockplates. Actions are engraved with full coverage of very nicely cut large shaded open scroll with acanthus highlights. Bottoms of actions and trigger guard bows have traditionally inspired game scenes. Gun no. 1 shows a flushing duck on action, and pair of grouse on trigger guard bow. Gun no. 2 shows grouse in flight on action, and pair of pheasants on guard bow. Engravers signature “Wal Howe” appears below birds on actions. Bolster of trigger plate is engraved “Supreme de-luxe”. “A. A. Brown & Sons” is on rectangular riband on each lockplate. Beaded trigger guard tangs have matching scroll and SN. Top levers have nos. “1” and “2” inlaid on each gun, respectively. Straight grip buttstocks measure 14-7/8″ over checkered wood butts, and feature drop points, diamond hands, 22 LPI flat top point pattern checkering with mullered borders, and gold ovals on toe line engraved with initials “A. O. F.” European walnut buttstock on gun no. “1” is nicely smoke marbled with some stump figure. Wood on gun no. “2” is more broadly marbled with no figure. Matching splinter forends have Anson releases with “1” and “2” inlaid in gold on forend tips for each gun respectively. Ejector trips and hammers, as well as, forend locking latch, are gold-plated. SNs are engraved on irons. Gun no. “1”: Bore diameter: left -.730, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.022, right -.009. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.030. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 3.5 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. Gun no. “2”: Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.022, right -.009. Wall thickness: left -.031, right -.030. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 4 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. Brown leather two-gun case with brass lock has stitched leather corners, and inset contrasting leather central panel embossed with initials “A. O. F.” on top. Interior is lined in maroon cloth, with black leather gold embossed A. A. Brown & Sons label. Accessories include 2-pc wood cleaning rod with brushes, A. A. Brown & Sons marked round oil bottle, and 2 pairs of snap caps, also maker marked. PROVENANCE: Email from Robin Brown giving particulars of these guns. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, showing only the slightest evidence of having been fired. There is some silvering at muzzles and breech ends of bbls from contact with case, and a few extractor wipe marks on breech faces. There are a couple of areas of slight discoloration to coin finish on actions, and a few small handling marks on wood. Actions are tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, with no visible imperfections. Case is excellent, with only a few minor marks on exterior, mostly on corners. Straps and handle are excellent. Interior cloth shows some rubs from contact with guns. Label is excellent, as are accessories. A very fine pair of fast handling guns. 4-39865 MGM10 (25,000-35,000)
