RARE O.D. JENNINGS GOLF BALL VENDOR/GAMBLING SLOT MACHINE. Various companies in the 1930s and 40s manufactured and produced a slot machine that would actually pay off in golf balls as opposed to coins. Oftentimes these machines were only utilized in country clubs and for many years they were kept in play long past their date of production. This particular example, manufactured by Jennings, features a handsome naturally finished walnut cabinet. A coin, usually a quarter, is deposited in the slot on the golf ball and the handle pulled. Automatic payout of a reward would be issued if the player got two cherries, three oranges, etc. Golf balls would be dispensed out the lower left corner into a cup. The front facade showed a series of golf balls in escalator fashion, thus assuring the player he would be rewarded if he hit a winning combination. A small circular window below handle is a coin return. It should be a small aluminum cup which is missing. The original back doors, one allowing access to the coin box and the second, the larger of the two, exposes the mechanism. Both doors are original and stamped with the same number. Serial number on mechanism is “140689” and on the interior cabinet wall there is also a production paper with same serial number. A great machine that is highly sought after not only by collectors of coin operated devices, but by golfers and collectors of golf memorabilia. SIZE: 18″ x 18″ x 20″ h. CONDITION: Overall excellent restored condition and still retaining original paper reel strips. 1-11318 (4,500-6,500)
