*RARE L.C. SMITH CROWN GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN FWE117006. Hunter Arms Crown grade with the rare 32” Nitro Steel bbls choked FULL/FULL with flat, tapered, matted, ventilated rib, dbl beads, crossbolt rib extension, ejectors & Hunter One-trigger. Mounted with its orig, very nicely figured, English walnut stock with large, schnable tipped, checkered, beavertail forearm and Prince of Wales rnd knob stock with extensive checkering & Monte Carlo comb, 13-1/2” over a Hawkins waffle pad. Receiver & lockplates are engraved in typical crown grade patterns with two bird dogs in a field scene on the left & right sides surrounded by floral & arabesque patterns with about 75% coverage. Engraving extends about 1-1/2” over chambers on bbls and a line of engraving at the muzzles. There is a gold crown inlaid on the thumb lever pivot and a gold “S” on top tang. Right bbl flat is stamped “CHAMBERS / 2-3/4 / INCHES”. Top of bbls have the usual engraved Hunter Arms Co. inscriptions. Bore diameter: left – .613, right – .614. Bore restrictions: left – .026, right – .025. Wall thickness: left – .031, right – .024. Drop at heel: 1-3/4”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 7 lbs. .32 oz. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this shotgun as a Crown Grade featherweight, 20 ga. with 32” bbls, ejectors, one trigger, beavertail forearm & ventilated rib, finished Feb. 13, 1929 and shipped Oct. 8, 1929 to Gayle Hardware Co. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of a fine, restored, rust blue finish with slight muzzle edge wear. Receiver & lockplates retain 60-70% faded, orig case colors turned silver on bottom front and triggerguard retains about 80-85% orig blue. Stock has a couple of hairlines back of right lockplate, otherwise wood is sound and retains about all of a fine, professionally restored finish with freshened checkering.
