*EXCEPTIONALLY FINE HOLLAND AND HOLLAND ROYAL DELUXE GAME GUN WITH EXTRA BARRELS, CASE AND ACCESSORIES. SN 40825. (1986) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 28″ Chopper lump barrels with low concave game ribs are engraved “Holland & Holland.” and “33, Bruton Street, London.” on tops. Bbl flats show London nitro proofs at “.728”, “2-3/4″” chambers, and “3-1/4 tons”. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN. Both sets of bbls are fitted with Holland and Holland patent self-opening mechanisms. Breech ends of bbls are engraved with decorative bands and rear portion of ribs with acanthus. There is a gold inlaid star on rear rib of one set denoting heavy chokes. Coin finished “Royal” action features double triggers, automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold), hand detachable locks, and gold line tumbler end cocking indicators. Action and lockplates are beautifully engraved with very finely executed shaded open acanthus framing Kell style nicely detailed vignettes of game birds. Bottom of action depicts a woodcock with aspen in background. Left lock shows four mallards rising from pond; right, a pair of pheasants flushing from meadow with pointer in background. Bow of beaded trigger guard depicts a quail perched on fence post. Tang has SN inlaid in gold, with matching acanthus scroll. Nicely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/8″ over checkered wood butt, and features drop points, Holland diamond hand, 22 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders, and gold oval on toe line engraved “J. D. G. Nov. 2nd 1986″. There are two interchangeable forends, one splinter and one beavertail, with Anson releases, and wood, checkering and engraving matching buttstock. Open choke bbls: Bore diameter: left -.726, right -.726. Bore restrictions: left -.020, right -.010. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.033. Starred bbls: Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.726. Bore restrictions: left -.033, right -.031. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.036. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 9 oz, LOP 15-1/8”. Dark brown leather case with stitched leather corners is embossed “J.D.G.” on lid. Interior is lined with green cloth with black leather Holland and Holland label. Accessories include 2-pc black nylon cleaning rod with brass fittings marked “Holland & Holland”, nickeled spare striker case containing strikers, and pair of Holland & Holland marked snap caps. Case is protected by felt lined green canvas zippered outer cover. CONDITION: Excellent, near new. Bbls have virtually all of their original lustrous black with a few wipe marks on lumps. Action retains virtually all its coin finish with no evidence of discoloration. Action pin shows some use, and is slightly out of time. Breechfaces show some extractor wipe marks and evidence of having been fired. Stocks have all of their original finish but with some minor marks from handling and use. There are a couple of fairly deep marks in checkering on butt. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent with no visible imperfections. Case is excellent with a couple of minor scuffs on corners; one heavy scuff on lid. Straps and handle are very good. Interior cloth shows some rubs, and slight soiling. Accessories are excellent.
