13 STAR AMERICAN FLAG. 4′ 2″ x 9′ 6″. Wool bunting flag with dbl applique cotton stars. Stars are applied in canton in rows of three, two, three, two, and three. Stars are hand-sewn, stripes are machine-sewn. 1-1/4″ linen hoist is hand-sewn and incorporates two brass grommets and a hand-whipped center sewn grommet. Circa Civil War. CONDITION: Colors are excellent. A few small holes, repaired. Hoist is stenciled in red ink Mastai Collection and has inked No. 30 and 9 x 42. Canton has area of staining, not effecting esthetics of flag. 4-53384 JS20 (500-1,000)
