*BOSS SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER HEAVY GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 4728. (ca. 1899) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 30″ Dovetailed steel barrels are engraved “Boss & Co. 73, St. James’s Street, London.” on concave game rib with ivory mid and front beads. Bbl flats show London nitro proofs for 1-1/8 oz, and 2008 London re-proof for 2-3/4″ chambers. Factory records indicate this gun was originally chambered for 2-3/4″ cartridges. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN. Nicely filed case hardened sidelock “easy opening” action features non-automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold), gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and Miller non-selective single trigger (intercepting sears have NOT been removed). All metal parts are engraved with well-cut English scroll with rose bouquet highlights. “Boss & Co.” is in serpentine riband on each lockplate. SN is at rear of trigger guard tang. Fiddle and flame figured walnut full pistol grip buttstock measures 14-11/16″ over black leather covered pad, and features drop points, 24 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders, steel grip cap, and silver oval on toe line engraved “Daniel L. Roebuck.” European walnut splinter forend has Anson release, 28 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders, and is fitted with Boss ejectors. SN is on inside of iron. Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.034, right -.025. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 8.6 oz, LOP 14-11/16″. Makers oak and leather case has brass corners, and is embossed “A.H.S.” on lid. Interior is lined in dark red cloth with large paper Boss label, and secondary cleaning and lubrication label. There is space in case for two sets of bbls. Key is included inside case. PROVENANCE: Copy of emails from Boss discussing gun’s original configuration. CONDITION: Excellent as partially refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of a very fine lustrous London re-blue. Engraving is a bit thin. Action retains 60% original case color. Lockplates retain 70-80% original case color. Trigger guard retains nearly all of its re-blue. Top lever has most of its original blue, silvered at thumbpiece. Well made new stock retains nearly all of its finish with a slight area of lifting behind right lockplate. Forend checkering has been re-cut. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Trigger works. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny. Case leather is darkening with numerous scrapes and abrasions. Straps are new. Original handle seems strong, but leather is cracked. Interior cloth is good with numerous areas rubbed and soiled from contact with gun. Partitions are tight, but show some re-gluing and re-lining. Compartment cover is a replacement. Boss label is good, slightly soiled with one spot rubbed through, and is foxed. Cleaning label has some marks. 4-40551 MGM30 (20,000-30,000)
