42 STAR AMERICAN FLAG. 37″ x 62″. Home-made flag, all machine sewn. Flag is totally made of cotton. Stars in canton are in a folky configuration. No. 24 Mastai Collection is stenciled and written on the 1″ hoist. 42 stars is an unofficial designation. The 42nd star commemorates the state of Washington, which became a state November 11, 1889. CONDITION: Overall very good. Some fraying on flag, staining on white stripes and hoist. Blue canton exhibits light fading.
