*FIRST OF THE WINCHESTER MODEL 70 CUSTOM SHOP AFRICAN EDITION. SN G0001AE1. Cal. 458 Lott. 24″ rnd bbl. Ramp front with gold bead sight and hood. Adjustable express rear sight, bbl band swivel. Left side of bbl is marked WINCHESTER MODEL 70 .458 LOTT/MADE IN NEW HAVEN . CT. U.S.A.. Top of bbl at receiver has WINCHESTER CUSTOM SHOP proof as well as WP proof. Left side of receiver is marked WINCHESTER/TRADEMARKS LICENSED FROM OLIN CORP.. Front right of receiver ring has specialized, custom shop serial number. Bolt body and extractor are finely jeweled and bolt handle has checkered ring. “Trigger guard and floorplate are elaborately engraved with 24K gold overlay of an elephant centered on floorplate, accented by a lion, leopard, rhino and cape buffalo. Surrounding the gold vignettes is a complimentary, scroll pattern, highlighted with a French gray background. There are a great many other features to this piece which include the words “AFRICAN EDITION” and the outline of Africa, inlaid in gold with matching, interlocking scroll design on trigger guard. Engraved by Baron Technology, Trumbull, CT.” Mounted in fancy, flame grained walnut, wrap around checkered forend, checkered pistol grip, straight comb with left side cheekpiece, black decelerator pad, inlet swivel base 3-3/4″ from toe, and dual cross bolts. Accompanying the firearm is a U.S.Repeating Arms Co. letter dated September 29, 2004 identifying gun as a Custom African Edition, which was built in a limited quantity of 50 in the Winchester Custom Shop with serial numbers G0001AE1-G0050AE1, and were sold exclusively through Cabela’s, and goes on to give all the pertinent information about the gun. CONDITION: Extremely fine, appears as new since manufactured. Bbl and action retain virtually all of the orig, custom shop, matte bluing. Stock is sound with sharp, new checkering, possibly a tiny handling mark but retains all of its orig, custom shop finish. Gun was shipped from custom shop and still includes a black Doskocil case. 4-40010 BDT166 (4,000-6,000)
