*INTERESTING CUSTOM RUGER 1 SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. SN 6822. Cal. 375 H&H. 24″ bbl, banded front ramp with gold bead sight, bbl band swivel, Ruger 1/4 rib with flip-up rear sight. Muzzle has wide band of scroll engraving with accenting scroll on each side of ramp and directly behind. Chamber has matching wide band of scroll as well as an 1-1/2″ wedge of scroll engraving on each side of quarter rib and caliber marking on left side. Top of bbl is marked “STURM, RUGER & CO. INC., SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A”. The falling block action is beautifully engraved with relief bold foliate scroll, and in relief engraved majestic male lion on left side, matching scroll and Kudu bull on right side, scroll over top of action, and center of bottom. The right side is stamped “KAYE” identifying this work by noted engraver “T.J. KAYE”. Mounted with highly figured walnut, raised side panels, fleur-de-lis checkered pistol grip, relief engraved pistol grip cap of a crouching leopard, straight comb, solid red Old English recoil pad, left side cheekpiece, and sling swivel stud. Beavertail forend, fleur-de-lis checkered with hole for attaching screw filled with ebony and checkered to match. This fine stock work was executed by “Red Jackson”. This gun is pictured in Joe Clayton’s book “Ruger No. 1”, color Plate I, with a matching 458. This fine custom work was executed on a very early 4-digit No. 1 action. CONDITION: Extremely fine, gun appears new since completion. Bbl retains virtually all of its fine custom blue. Receiver retains all of its fine grayed custom finish. Stock is sound with sharp checkering, a couple minor handling marks and retains all of its fine custom oil finish. Forend is sound with sharp checkering, a few minor handling marks, and retains virtually all of its fine custom oiled finish. Mechanics are crisp with a nice shiny bore. 4-39706 BDT61 (4,500-7,500)
