RICHMOND, VIRGINIA AGENT MARKED SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. NSN. English made dbl bbl shotgun with approx. 30″ bbls, agent marked “C.J. Sinton Richmond VA” on bbl flat. Two gold bands & silver or platinum plugs at breech. Bbls English proofed on bottom & marked “H & S”, probably for Hollis & Sheath. Locks are marked “C.J. Sinton”. Many shotguns were carried by Confederates, especially early in Civil War. CONDITION: An old break at wrist is nicely contemporarily repaired with two brass plaques expertly applied with twelve screws. Metal surfaces exhibit floral engraving. Hammer screws are both replaced. A sling swivel has been added to forward thimble. Indiscernible initials are scratched into right side of buttstock. One nipple is replaced. Keyway attachment to bbl has come loose, but is still present. This gun has seen hard use. 4-58055 (1,500-3,000)
