*ERNST KERNER HEEREN SINGLE SHOT DROPPING BLOCK STALKING RIFLE. SN 5727. Cal. 7 x 57 R. This compact lightweight fast handling little rifle has 23-1/2″ 1/3 octagon, 2/3 round ribbed bbl. Fully matted top rib is engraved “Robert Hubner, Darmstadt.” in milled out portion of rib. One standing, one folding leaf rear sight is dovetailed through rib. Red bead front is longitudinally dovetailed into raised portion at muzzle. SN and “Krupp – Laufstahl” are stamped on left flat of bbl. Bottom flat has German nitro proofs for 7 x 57, with proof date of 11/38. Nicely filed Heeren action is engraved “Ernst Kerner & Co. Suhl” around matted circular area on receiver ring. Right side of case hardened action has “B U N” crowned proofs. Left side is stamped “Heeren”. Toggle safety with checkered head is on right front of action. Opening lever is also stamped “Heeren” on left side, with SN on top. Action is engraved with large Germanic scroll on either side with small scroll borders. Push forward opening lever and unique Heeren set trigger and cocking lever are fire-blued. Full pistol grip lightly marbled European walnut buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over ribbed horn buttplate, and features a shadow line right hand cheekpiece, steel grip cap, sling loop on toe line, and 22 LPI checkering with line and mullered borders. Full length forend has flared horn schnable tip, bail type sling attachment, keyed on removable section with small carved schnable, and point pattern checkering with mullered borders. This piece attaches with side nail through oval engraved steel escutcheons. Piece of horn is fitted between this removable piece and front piece. Drop at heel: Approx 3″, drop at comb: Approx 1-5/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 1 oz, LOP 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of its original blue with some areas of pinprick pitting and thinning. Action retains a considerable amount of its case color with some areas of staining, and frosting. Most of fire-blue remains on opening lever and triggers. Stocks retain most of their original finish with numerous minor marks and dents from handling and use. Front sling attachment is split. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny. Rifling is sharp.
