38 STAR AMERICAN FLAG. 38″ x 65″. All hand-sewn. Accompanied by tag which states “Flag made by hand 1877 / V.S. Hawkins”. Stars are dbl appliqued. The 38th star commemorates Colorado which became a state July 4, 1876. Stars in canton are done in five rows, top two and bottom two rows are eight stars with a center row of six stars. Flag is wool bunting with cotton stars and a 1″ muslin hoist with two crude brass grommets. CONDITION: Overall excellent, several small holes no larger than 1/4″, several holes repaired by hand.
