*EXTREMELY FINE KEN HUNT ENGRAVED PURDEY EXTRA FINISH SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH EXTRA BARRELS AND CASE. SN 28009. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ and 28″ Chopper lump barrels with high narrow matted flat rib are engraved “J. Purdey & Sons.” and “Audley House. South Audley Street. London. England.” on tops. Bbl flats show 1974 London proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers at .729. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN. Bottom of left bbl is stamped “Purdey” with barrel makers initials “AH”. 28″ Barrels have tube numbers 72765 and 72766 on loop. Bottom of rear lump is stamped with choke information “R-55% L-65%”. 26″ Barrels have tube nos. 72767 and 72768 on loop, with choke information on rear lump “R – 45%” and “L-50%”. Case hardened Beesley patent self-opening action features non-automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and Purdey non-selective single trigger. Action and lockplates have full coverage of very nicely cut classic large open shaded acanthus scroll with strap work highlights. This is the work of noted engraver Ken Hunt whose signature appears on right side of trigger plate beside trigger. Bottom of action is engraved “J Purdey & Sons London – England”. Sides of action above and below lockplate in elongated lozenges are engraved “J. Purdey & Sons” and “London – England”. Small bow trigger guard continues same engraving motif with SN in oval on long tang. Dark nicely streaked and stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over leather covered pad, and features drop points, 24 LPI checkering with mullered borders, and a vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. SN is engraved on inside of iron, as well as actioners initials “PD”. 26″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.731, right -.731. Bore restrictions: left -.008, right -.006. Wall thickness: left -.035, right -.035. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 13.8 oz, LOP 14-3/4″. 28″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.731, right -.731. Bore restrictions: left -.022, right -.009. Wall thickness: left -.031, right -.030. Weight: 6 lbs. 13.8 oz. Makers Brady type toe under leather case with stitched leather corners has initials “C.C.” embossed on lid. Interior is lined with maroon cloth, with gold embossed black leather Purdey label, and charge card for this gun. Accessories include 2-pc wooden cleaning rod with jag and brush, striker case with spare strikers and springs, as well as Purdey marked snap caps and oil bottle. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain virtually all of their original blue with very few minor marks from handling and use. Action retains 90% of its original case color, silvered on beads and outer edges of fences. Lockplates retain virtually all of their case color with a bit of silvering on upper edge of left lockplate, probably from being carried at the ready with thumb at that spot. Most of original lacquer is present, but is quite dark and heavy. This gun would greatly profit by having action cleaned and re-lacquered which would bring up details of engraving. Hinge pin fire blue is thinning. Trigger guard and top lever retain most of their original charcoal blue with guard silvering at tang, and slightly on right edge of bow. Lever is silvered at top of thumbpiece. Safety retains approximately 30% of its original fire blue. Stocks retain virtually all of their original finish with a few minor marks. Inside of forend shows some compressions around loop mortise. Minor crack has started behind right lockplate, but appears stable. Leather of pad is slightly scuffed at heel. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Drop is excellent. Ejectors are in time with both sets of bbls. Bores are excellent, with no visible imperfections. Case is very fine with a few scuffs, and spots where labels were attached. Straps and handle are fine. Interior is very fine, with compressions and slight soiling from contact with gun and bbls. Charge card has some discoloration. Label is excellent. Accessories are fine. A very pleasing gun made with obvious attention to detail. 4-40476 MGM25 (35,000-55,000)
