AMERICAN CIVIL WAR 34 STAR FLAG. 44″ x 72″. Accompanying papers with this flag state the flag was made by the John Lloyd family of Cumbola, Pa. John Lloyd was a Private in Company “H” 48th Pennsylvania Regimen. Flag is all hand-sewn. Stars are dbl appliqued, folded under and sewn and are in “folky” arrangement. Some stars are more starfish shaped and vary from 4″ to 5-1/2″ across. Red stripes appear to be a wool-cotton blend. White stripes appear to be cotton. Canton is also a blended cloth. Stars are cotton. Hoist is linen. This wonderful home-made flag, in old brown ink on hoist reads “48th Reg. Presented to John Lloyd 1861”. CONDITION: Colors are excellent. Several stars show fraying and reduction. Scattered mothing, does not effect esthetics. Identified home-made Civil War flags are quite scarce, this flag will present very nicely. 4-53401 JS24 (2,000-4,000)
