*FINELY ENGRAVED AUGUSTE FRANCOTTE MAUSER ACTION CUSTOM RIFLE. SN 21473. Cal. 270 Win. 24″ Round bbl with matted quarter rib is inlaid in gold “Made in Belgium by Aug. Francotte Cal. 270 Winch.” on top. Rear of rib has no. “2” engraved, and consignor states that this is gun number 2 of 12, made for a man in Texas during the 1980’s. Left side of bbl is engraved “Atlanta Outfitters GA. US. Agent”. Quarter rib is fitted with one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight, and has nicely filed double step transition to bbl with relief engraved scroll on first transition. Front bead is longitudinally dovetailed into a nicely filed and matted base with Westley Richards style folding sight cover. Standard length Mauser 98 action has low swept back bolt handle with finely checkered flattened bottom portion of knob, and standard flag safety. Action tang extends over comb, and is scroll engraved. Bottom metal has a push button floorplate release at rear of plate. Rear of trigger guard extends to steel grip cap. Coin finish trigger guard and floorplate are engraved with very finely executed shaded open scroll with stippled background. Finely detailed whitetail buck is inlaid in gold on center of floorplate. SN is inlaid in gold in cartouche on grip. Trap grip cap is also scroll engraved with raised gold horseshoe on trap. Nicely marbled and figured French walnut pistol grip stock measures 14-9/16″ over very nicely engraved basket weave and scroll engraved steel buttplate. Slim racy stock has ebony forend tip, and approx 26 LPI point pattern checkering with line border. Drop at heel: 2-5/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 9 oz, LOP 14-9/16″. CONDITION: Essentially as new. with only one or two very minor marks in wood, and a few rub marks on bolt from being worked in action. 4-39153 MGM64 (7,500-12,000)
