48 STAR AMERICAN FLAG. 14″ x 23″. Printed cotton flag. Canton stars are in the Whipple pattern consisting of a great star surrounded by a circle of stars surrounded by eight stars. Whipple designed this canton with the 13 stars in the center great star representing the original 13 colonies, the 25 stars in large circle represent the states which came in between the colonies and 1876, the 8 stars on the outside represent the states from 1876 to 1912. Whipple designed this flag about 1910. Rare pattern. CONDITION: Overall very good, red is excellent and bright, blue has faded to a gray/purple. 4-53433 JS30 (1,000-2,000)
