*GRIFFIN AND HOWE SPRINGFIELD SPORTING RIFLE W/SCOPE. SN 1459. Cal. 30-06. 24″ Round Star gauge bbl with quarter rib is engraved “No. 1459 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York” on top. “30-06 Gov” is engraved on left side in front of receiver ring. There is a banded-on sling eye and typical Griffin front sight base with matted ramp. Marbles gold bead front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into base. A typical G & H nicely machine knurled sight protector is present. Three folding leaf express rear sight has silver lines, and is marked for 100, 200, and 300 yards. Faces of sight blades, and top of the quarter rib, are stippled. Springfield action has had its tang streamlined, has a stippled top receiver ring, and has G & H single lever side mount base, and Lyman 48 receiver sight, installed. Bolt knob has checkered ring, and floral engraving at tip. Fully checkered flag safety with “READY” and “SAFE” inlaid in silver, has been installed. Standard bottom metal has had thumbnail size checkered area added to front of floorplate. Standard two stage trigger has been checkered. Classic Griffin & Howe style lightly streaked European walnut full pistol grip stock measures 14″ over checkered model 70 type steel buttplate, and features small shadow line Whelen style cheekpiece, steel grip cap, horn forend tip, and 20 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders. There is a vacant silver oval, and sling loop on toe line. Drop at heel: Approx 2-3/4″, drop at comb: Approx 1-7/8″. Weight: 8 lbs. 3-1/2 oz, LOP 14″. Lyman Alaskan 2-1/2 X Scope with single post reticle is in Griffin & Howe rings on single lever slide, which is stamped “Griffin & Howe, N.Y. N.Y.” CONDITION: Excellent, as factory refurbished. Bbl and action retain nearly all of a very fine rust blue, silvered slightly on high edges. Stocks retain virtually all of a hand rubbed oil finish, with a very few light marks from handling and use. Checkering has been re-cut. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with strong sharp rifling. Scope shows some rubs, probably from a cap.
