*FINELY ENGRAVED GRIFFIN & HOWE MODEL 70 CUSTOM RIFLE. SN 2364. Cal. .308. 22″ Round featherweight barrel is fitted with banded sling eye, and G & H front base with matted ramp with gold front bead longitudinally dovetailed. Top of bbl is engraved “No. 2364 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York”; left rear: “Cal. .308”. Model 70 action has no. “225649” and Winchester proof on receiver ring. “Winchester” “Trademark” is on left side rail. Rear tang of action has been streamlined. Redfield scope mounts have been fitted to top of action. Right rail and follower, as well as bolt body, and extractor have been engine turned. Unaltered Model 70 style bolt handle has two panels of checkering on knob in G & H style. Model 70 trigger guard has had the floorplate release altered to Mauser type with button inside of bow. Bottom metal has been engraved, probably by Joseph Fugger, with very finely cut shaded open scroll with matted background. There are gold wire inlaid border highlights. Central medallion on floorplate shows a very finely executed quartering portrait of mule deer in relief. Rear of floorplate has “SUPER” “GRADE” inlaid in gold. Typical Griffin & Howe style pistol grip lightly streaked European walnut buttstock measures 13-5/8″ over Model 70 checkered steel buttplate, and features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, steel grip cap, ebonite forend tip, and 20 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders. On toe line there is a sling eye, and silver oval engraved with initials “H.B.R.” Leupold M 8 – 4 X Scope with duplex reticle is in steel Leupold rings. Scope has one Butler Creek storm cover. Drop at heel: Approx 2-1/2″, drop at comb: Approx 1-3/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 2 oz, LOP 13-5/8″. PROVENANCE: Description of this rifle as offered for sale. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal retains virtually all high polished blue. Stock retains nearly all of renewed oil finish over numerous small marks and dings. Small piece of wood has been inlet on left side where receiver sight has been removed. Checkering is slightly worn, and clogged with finish. Scope is excellent, but with a number of marks from contact with other rings. Optics are clear. Bore is excellent. 4-39767 MGM92 (6,500-9,700)
