*R. G. OWEN CUSTOM SPRINGFIELD RIFLE. SN 724. Cal. 30-06. 22″ Round bbl is engraved “R. G. Owen – Sauquoit, N. Y. No. 724” on top. Ivory front bead is longitudinally dovetailed into banded base with checkered ramp which has a push button hood release, but hood is missing. Action has had top of receiver ring checkered, rear tang re-shaped, and has been fitted with Lyman 48 receiver sight which has been filed to slightly rounded contour. Bolt body has been engine turned. Handle has been turned down. Knob has a checkered band around circumference. Case hardened flag type safety is fully checkered and has “Ready” and “Safe” inlaid in silver on either side. Bottom metal has been converted to hinge-type, with release button in trigger guard bow. Trigger has been altered to single stage. Nicely marbled, and slightly figured European walnut stock measures 13-5/8″ over checkered and engraved trap steel buttplate. Stock features very nicely shaped beaded shadow line right hand cheekpiece, steel trap grip cap, horn forend tip, and 18 LPI multi-point pattern borderless checkering. Sling loop is in vacant gold shield on toe line. On stock, at rear of action, are Owens signature arrowhead drop points. Consignor states gun painstakingly restored by Maurice Ottmar. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 6 oz, LOP 13-5/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, as professionally refinished. Metal parts retain nearly all of a very fine satin rust blue. Stock retains most all of its restored hand rubbed oil finish with a few minor marks from handling. Checkering has been cleanly re-cut. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling throughout.
