*CLASSIC R.G.OWEN CUSTOM SPRINGFIELD SPORTING RIFLE W/SCOPE. SN 753. Cal. 30-06. 24″ Round streamlined bbl is engraved “R.G. Owen – Sauquoit, N.Y. No. 753” on top, and is fitted with banded-on sling loop, and front sight base with checkered ramp. Gold bead front sight, with flip-up porcelain night sight, is longitudinally dovetailed into base, which is fitted with push button sight hood lock. Sight hood is present. Action has had tang nicely shaped, with receiver ring stippled. Griffin & Howe double lever side mount, as well as a Lyman 48 receiver sight, have been fitted. “N. S.” marked bolt body is polished bright and is damascened. Unaltered handle has tear shaped checkered panel on top of knob, and circular panel on flattened bottom portion. Hinged bottom metal is held in place by button catch through trigger guard bow which has been nicely filed and shaped at rear. Action screws are engraved. Classic Owen style lightly streaked European walnut pistol grip stock measures 13-3/4″ over engraved and checkered trap steel buttplate. Area under trap has space for three cartridges. Stock features horn forend tip, steel trap grip cap, beaded shadow line right hand cheekpiece, and 20 LPI multi-point pattern borderless checkering. There is an uncheckered diamond shaped band in forend checkering with central uncheckered diamond surrounding steel escutcheon with screw to fasten forend to bbl. Owen signature arrowhead drop points are on either side of stock. There is a vacant trademark silver shield (Owen hammered these out from silver dimes)and sling loop on toe line. Drop at heel: Approx 2-5/16″, drop at comb: Approx 1-5/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 14 oz, LOP 13-3/4″. 2-3/4 X Hensoldt Ziel-Dialyt scope with post and crosshair reticle is in Griffin & Howe rings on double lever slide with windage adjustment. Top of slide is marked “Griffin & Howe Inc. N.Y. Patent # 231, 055 Oct 13 ’31”. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel, action and floorplate retain 90-95% of original blue, silvered on front sight band, high edges, and front portion of bottom metal. Buttplate and grip cap have been re-blued, and retain virtually all of that blue. Stock has most of an older light oil re-finish. Checkering is slightly worn, and has not been re-cut. Bore is bright and shiny, with strong rifling throughout. Scope is excellent with a few minor marks. Optics are clear. A fine classic rifle. 4-39709 MGM72 (4,500-7,500)
