W.W.GREENER TOP LEVER BAR LOCK HAMMER GUN WITH CASE. SN 15739. Cal. 12ga. Dbl trigger, rebounding locks. 30″ Dove-tailed fine Damascus barrels are marked “Patent Treble Wedge Fast” and “W. W. Greener. St.Mary’s Works, Birmingham.” on the concave top rib. Underneath the bbls are marked w/ Birmingham provisional and definitive black powder proofs as a 13 bore, as well as SN “15739” and the Greener elephant logo. The action has 40% coverage of scroll engraving w/ SN and British proofs on the water table. The hammers are nicely filed in typical Greener style, and the action has an unusual angled rear underbolt, as well as, typical Greener cross bolt. The slightly figured English walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over a stippled steel butt plate. Stock also has an unusual checkered buffalo horn pistol grip added to it, affixed w/ a screw. Checkering is coarse at 16 LPI. Splinter forend is affixed w/ side nail and has a steel tip. Bore diameter: left -.725, right -.724. Bore restrictions: left -.000, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.031. Drop at heel: 3″, drop at comb:2-1/8″. Weight:7 lbs 13oz. Oak and leather case has brass medallion on lid marked “John H. Abbeel, Jr.?? N.Y.” with remnants of an address scratched out. Interior is covered in green cloth, and contains an unmarked pewter oil bottle, small flask, BGI ring-type shell extractor, barrel sleeve, and red felt patches. CONDITION: Good. Bbls retain 50-60% thinning orig brown. Bores are bright and shiny w/ some light pitting polished out. Very minor dent 5″ back from the muzzle of the left barrel. Action retains 10% orig case color w/ most faded to silver. Lock plates retain 30% orig case color. Trigger guard has 20% orig blue. Top lever has about 60-70% orig blue. Breech faces have some slight pitting around the firing pin holes. Action is slightly loose, and off face. Screw slots show very little use. Trigger plate screw appears to be a replacement. Stocks appear to have orig finish but w/considerable wear. Case in poor condition. Leather dry and cracked, pieces missing. Some interior partitions are missing and have been re-worked. Oil bottle is quite nice, flask is dented on both sides. 4-35184 MGM14 (3,000-4,000)
