FREDERICK DeBOURG RICHARDS (American, 1822-1903) “SANDY HOOK”. Oil on canvas beach scene shows the remnants of a wrecked ship with waves crashing over its bow and several timber pieces on dry sand. The sea is relatively calm with small waves, all under a blue and shaded white cloud sky. Signed lower left “F. Deb. Richards”. Housed in a period gilt gesso decorated frame with added wood title plaque. SIZE: 15″ x 30″. CONDITION: Relined on new stretcher, minor inpainting. Very good. 9-99269 (6,000-7,000)
