J. P. CLABOROUGH TOP LEVER BAR LOCK HAMMER FOWLER. SN 16977. Cal. 8ga. 3-1/4″ Chambers. Dbl triggers, rebounding locks. 37″ Dove-tailed Damascus bbls are engraved “J.P.Claborough & Bros. London. Laminated Steel.” on concave rib w/ scroll engraving toward breech. Bottom of bbls marked w/ Birmingham provisional and definitive proofs, and “9B” “10M” “Not for Ball”. Double underbolted action w/ dolls head is nicely scroll engraved in about 50% coverage, and marked “J. P. Claborough & Bros.” in ribands on both lock plates. Left lock plate is also engraved with a running dog, right lock plate has two flushing snipe. Trigger guard is also scroll engraved and has SN “16977” on the grip. Slightly figured dark English walnut buttstock measure 14-1/2″ over a serrated hard rubber butt plate and features a semi-pistol grip, German silver shield, and 18 LPI checkering w/ double line borders. Forend has a Deeley and Edge fastener, a shaped metal tip, and checkering to match buttstock. Barrels have considerable choke. Wall thickness: left -NA, right -NA. Drop at heel:3″, drop at comb: 2″. Weight:14 lbs 3oz. CONDITION: Good. Bbls have 50% orig Damascus finish turning brown. Bores are very good w/ some minor very light pitting. Action and locks retain 10-30% case color, fading to gray. Buttstock and forend appear to have orig oil finish, somewhat dry. Butt plate has been taken down a bit to fit stock. A great old 8 bore very good condition for a gun of its type. 4-35183 MGM16 (4,000-6,000)
