*HOLLAND AND HOLLAND MAGAZINE TAKEDOWN RIFLE WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES. SN 2086. (ca. 1952) Cal..270 Win. 22-3/4″ Round barrel with sling loop banded on, is engraved “Holland & Holland. Ltd. 98 New Bond Street, London, W1” on top; left rear engraved “270 W.C.F.” Early F.N. Mauser 98 action has stippling on top of receiver ring. Sides of ring, side wall, and areas of bridge are engraved with open flowing shaded scroll. Action has been fitted with Holland style scope mounts, with scope semi-permanently affixed with screw through front ring. Rear ring is engraved “Holland & Holland” “No. 2086”. Blued bolt has British proofs, engraving, and SN on handle. Bolt shroud is also engraved and low scope safety has “SAFE” inlaid in gold. Bottom metal has removable floorplate with F.N. push button type release. Trigger guard has been re-contoured and shaped. Holland & Holland style takedown screw is installed. By removing the screw, barrel and action can be lifted from stock. Floorplate and trigger guard are engraved with flowing open shaded scroll and acanthus. Front of floorplate is marked “4 Cart’d’g’s”. SN is on bow. “Griffith” is engraved on scrolled riband on floorplate. Nicely proportioned, well marbled European walnut stock measures 12-1/2″ over brown “Old English” pad, and features H & H style right hand cheekpiece, engraved steel trap grip cap, reinforcing bolt, and 20 LPI flattop point pattern checkering with mullered borders in typical H & H style. Sling loop is on toe line, as well as, a gold oval engraved “P. L. G”. Drop at heel: Approx 3-7/8″, drop at comb: Approx 3″ (from line of sight). Weight: 8 lbs. 1 oz, with scope. LOP 12-1/2″. Approx 4 X Scope has three post reticle. Full length leather makers case with stitched leather corners, is embossed with initials P.L.G. Case is lined with maroon cloth, with Holland & Holland black leather label, and with paper charge label with specifications, and numbered to this particular gun. Accessories include H & H marked square oil bottle, leather cartridge wallet with 2 snap caps, bench cloth, unmarked leather wallet with cleaning pull through and brushes, Parker Hale cleaning rod, and H & H marked suede-lined wide leather sling. PROVENANCE: 1. Copy of Holland ledger page with details of this rifle. 2. Listing of this rifle for sale. CONDITION: Excellent, near new. Metal retains virtually all high luster blue. Stock retains virtually all its hand rubbed oil finish with a few marks, nicks, and dings. Bore is excellent. Scope has some minor scratches. Optics are clear. Case leather is still light colored, but shows numerous scuffs, marks, and considerable spotting. Interior cloth is excellent, as are accessories. 4-39770 MGM90 (12,000-17,000)
