JOHN DICKSON & SON TOP LEVERBAR LOCK HAMMER GUN FOR CHAS.GORDON. SN 3370. Cal. 10ga. Dbl triggers, rebounding locks. 29″ Dove-tailed Damascus bbls w/ “John Dickson & Son. 63 Princes Street.Edinburg 1” engraved on a high concave rib. Bbl flats are marked with Birmingham re-proof, “10” ga, and “3-1/4 tons” PSI marks as well as “J D & S” and SN “3370”. The action water table is marked “Purdey’s Patent Bolt” “J.P.Patent no. 1104” and “4675” which is the patent use number. It is also marked “J.D.& S Patent Action”, as well as black powder and Birmingham nitro proof marks. The nicely scroll engraved action has “John Dickson & Son” engraved on the lock plates. The nicely filed hammers are scroll engraved. The trigger guard is scroll engraved and has the number “3370” on the grip. The nicely figured European straight grip stock measures 14-1/2″ to a long tang steel butt plate. Checkering is about 18 LPI w/ mullered borders. Forend has a lever release which is marked with number “1”. and is checkered to match buttstock. Accompanied by a copy of the Factory ledger book dated Dec. 27, 1886 listing gun 3370 as one of a composed pair of top lever 10 gauge guns as for Charles Gordon Esq. and confirming the specifications observed. Bore diameter: left -.780, right -.781. Bore restrictions: left -.000, right -.004. Wall thickness: left -.028, right -.022. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb:1-1/2″. Weight:8 lbs 9.4 oz. CONDITION: Very good, from a professional refinished. Bbl show most of 98% very nicely colored re-brown. Bores are very good with no pits. Very small dent 8-1/2″ from muzzle at bottom of left barrel. Action shows most of re-casecolor over somewhat worn engraving. Breech faces are pitted, left face considerably. Hammers and top lever are gray. Trigger guard shows 95% of a shiny re-black. Stocks show most of their oil refinish. Checkering has been re-cut. 4-35044 MGM13 (5,500-8,500)
