CLARKSON FREDERICK STANFIELD (British, 1793-1867) “DIEPPE”. Large oil on canvas coastal scene shows the large 15th Century castle of Dieppe high atop a coastal cliff with cliffs and shoreline beyond. The foreground shows a family next to a boat. They are loading provisions while other figures work on a fishing boat which is dry, in low tide. The scene is shown under a majestic sky with billowing clouds and glimpses of blue. Signed lower left “C Stanfield, 1827″. Housed in a modern gesso decorated frame. SIZE: 48″ x 44”. PROVENANCE: Estate of Henry A. Rudkin Jr, (family of the founders of Pepperidge Farm). CONDITION: Old relining, some restoration with inpainting. Very good. 9-98958 (5,000-10,000)
