*KORNBRATH ENGRAVED GRIFFIN AND HOWE CUSTOM SPRINGFIELD RIFLE. SN 817. Cal. 30-06. 24″ Star gauge bbl is engraved “No. 817 Griffin & Howe, Inc. New York” on top and “.30.06 Gov.” on left side toward action. Silver Sheard bead Marbles front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into typical G & H banded ramp base. Banded swivel loop is also present. Border around front sight base is engraved with foliate scroll. Relief scroll engraving is on top of sling loop band, and there is a 1-1/2″ triangle of relief scroll, as well as a band of typical Kornbrath feathered engraving at breech end. Springfield action has been re-shaped at tang, and top of receiver ring has been matted. Engraved Lyman 48 base has been mounted on right side of receiver, and contains blank slide. Bolt body is damascened; knob has 2 checkered panels with underside flattened. Bolt handle itself has typical Kornbrath deep relief floral engraving. Floorplate and front portion of bottom metal have full coverage of semi-relief shaded open scroll. Central circle on floorplate has semi-relief gold inlay of bugling elk in alpine background. Trigger guard bow has full relief gold inlay of mountain goat surrounded by Kornbrath signature high relief poppies. Very nicely marbled and figured full pistol grip Circassian walnut stock measures 13″ over typical G & H checkered steel trap buttplate. Trap contains the slide for Lyman 48 receiver sight. Sling swivel loop with sunburst engraving and gold oval engraved with crossed keys are on toe line. Relief engraved steel grip cap also has trap with hinged cover. Whelen style cheekpiece has single bead, and no shadow line. Point pattern checkering is at approx 22 LPI with mullered borders. Forend tip is horn. Right side of receiver has Griffin and Howe double lever base. 2-1/2 X Noske scope with single post reticle is mounted in 7/8″ rings with Griffin and Howe marked mount with windage adjustment. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal retains virtually all rust blue, thinning and silvering on high points from being carried and handled. Stock retains most of its hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering is slightly worn, a bit dirty, and has not been re-cut. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with sharp rifling. Scope shows silvering on body and eyepiece.
