*RARE SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1899 US ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Colt. SN 13386. Rather rare early revolver with blue finish, 6” bbl, integral half moon front sight, groove rear sight, standard trigger & hammer with round butt, diamond checkered walnut grips. The left rear of the frame & right grip are both marked “K.S.M.” and the left grip is marked “J.T.T. / 1901”. The bottom of the butt is marked “U.S. Army Model 1899”. It is accompanied by a Rock Island brown leather holster dated “1904” with various inspector marks, a green canvas belt with bronze wreath & tongue bronze buckle and two green canvas ammo pouches with brass eagle snaps. Also accompanies is a S & W letter identifying this revolver as having been shipped April 17, 1901 to the U. S. Army, Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA as one of the 1000 units ordered by the army in 1900. “The six inch barrel length was a special barrel length, made to fill the army contract, as at this time the company only manufactured the 6.5” barrel length for commercial market”. CONDITION: Revolver is fine to very fine. Retains 87-90% bright original blue with moderate muzzle wear, light edge wear with moderately flaked cylinder. Grips are sound and show moderate wear; crisp mechanics; bright shiny bore. Holster has an open back seam, otherwise is fine with moderate wear.
