VICTORIAN WALNUT ACCOUNTANT’S SECRETARY. Circa 1860. In two parts, the upper section with molded cornice above a pair of angled covered doors with arched, molded figured panels. Centering an open section of shelves, stepped back and fitted to the lower case with sloping baise writing surface with molded edge. Over two banks of four short drawers, each with carved wood handles. The apron scalloped, the center open, below a central drawer, fitted with recessed shelving. SIZE: 65-1/2h x 49-1/2″w x 25-1/2″d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Beacon Hill & Thomaston estate. CONDITION: Structurally very good. Old surface with good patina. original baise and hardware. Shelves and kneehole are later additions. Area behind the cornice built up to function as storage surface which has no effect on the value. 9-93625 (1,500-3,000)
