VERY FINE OVER-UNDER PERCUSSION DOUBLE RIFLE BY LEBEDA OF PRAGUE. SN 3940. Cal. Approx. .595 Groove diameter. 23″ Exceptionally fine Damascus barrels have 7 narrow rounded groove rifling. Ramrod mounts to right side through three ramrod pipes with raised bead ends. Replacement ramrod has brass tip. High rounded Damascus rib is on left side. Rear sight with solid silver V-notch folding leaf is dovetailed through shaped Damascus block. Silver bead front sight is dovetailed through a more intricately filed Damascus base. Sling swivel loop is soldered to bottom bbl. Rear of bbl has tasteful two-toned gold inlay of vine and floral motif. Breech has large open fences with steel vents and relief acanthus engraving. Top of breech is engraved “LEBEDA” in high relief. Breech iron has barrel attaching square shouldered screw at bottom with relief acanthus scroll engraving on top tang surrounding oval vignette of a chamois. On top tang of iron there is a raised silver shield engraved with letter “K” which is surmounted by high relief crown denoting a count. Lockplates mortise into breech iron and have intricately filed outline with back acting sliding safeties. Engraving continues the acanthus motif highlighting running stag on left side, and pair of foxes on right. Right lock is engraved “In Prag” and left lock “A Prague”. Flat sided tall percussion hammers have matching engraving with running fox on left, and another fox looking back over its shoulder on right. Both triggers are “set.” Front trigger fires left lock, and rear trigger fires right. Trigger guard has intricately filed bow, and continues the engraving theme with standing chamois. Pistol grip is formed by scroll carved horn extension. There is a large horn sling retaining button at rear of trigger guard tang. Light colored nicely figured European walnut buttstock measures 13-3/16″ over long tang steel buttplate with SN on butt. Tang continues relief acanthus theme. Right side features very nicely relief engraved patchbox with hounds worrying stag in central circle. Patchbox is surrounded by relief carved acanthus with highlights of various boars, foxes, and dogs. Stock also features shadow line right hand cheekpiece with relief carving where it rises from the stock, and skip line checkering with carved fleur-de-lis terminations. Drop at heel: Approx 2-7/8″, drop at comb: Approx 1-3/4″. Weight: 8 lbs. 6 oz, LOP 13-3/16″. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of their silvery etched finish. Breeches, breech iron, locks, and hammers retain most of what appears to be their original case colors under new varnish. Stock appears to have new French polish added. Carving is slightly rubbed. Checkering is somewhat filled with finish. Horn appointments are in excellent condition with no damage. Bores have strong rifling, fairly shiny, but showing frosting at muzzles. Locks are crisp.
