RELIC PIECE OF WOOD FROM VON RICHTHOFEN’S FOKKER DR I TRI-PLANE 425/17. Carisella’s inventory lists this item simply as a “Piece of wood from wing,” but there appears to be no additional identification or provenance. A handwritten notation on the varnished section of the piece is: “Baron Richtofens (sic) Plane”. One side of the specimen shows evidence of a thin mahogany veneer, with traces of a varnished finish; the remainder appears to be oak. To have included this piece in his collection, Carisella undoubtedly had further information on the authenticity of this item. CONDITION: Relic. SIZE: 4-1/2” long x roughly 3/4” wide. From the Collection of the late P. J. Carisella. 4-53517 CW18 (1,500-2,000)
