*WESTLEY RICHARDS BOXLOCK EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE WITH CASE. SN 17310. (1912) Cal. 32/40. 26″ Dovetailed bbls are engraved “Westley Richards” and “32/40 Express” on tops. Bbls feature raised matted quarter rib with Westley Richards doll’s head third fastener extension, with semi-relief scroll engraved transitions between quarter rib, mid rib, and front sight. Mid rib between scroll is engraved “Westley Richards. 173 New Bond St. London. Gunmakers by Appointment to His Majesty George V. Rex. Et. Imp.” One standing, four folding leaf express rear sight with platinum lines is graduated to 500 yards. Silver bead front sight with folding night bead is longitudinally dovetailed into square base with Westley Richards patent folding sight hood with patent number on top. Bottoms of bbls have SN, provisional proofs, and initials “H.L”. Bbl flats show London nitro proofs for 20 grains cordite, and 165 grain bullet. Small sling loop is screwed to bottom rib. Small boxlock action is stamped with patent numbers, “Anson and Deeley Patent”, and patent use no. 12898 on water table. Action features top dovetailed bushed strikers, Westley Richards sliding third fastener, bolted automatic safety with “BOLTED” and “SAFE” inlaid in gold, and rounded action bar. Top of action is engraved “Westley Richards” and “Patent Ejector”. Engraving is at about 80% coverage of nicely executed shaded scroll with “Westley Richards” in scrolled ribands on either side. Floorplate has scroll and vignette of buck and doe in woodland setting. Trigger guard pictures a bear in woodlands on bow. SN is on grip which extends to an engraved steel cap. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over checkered horn buttplate with shaped rectangular silver crest plate and sling loop on toe line. Shadow line oval right handed cheekpiece is inset with large German silver oval depicting monogram “M D” intertwined surmounted by a smiling sun. Legend on riband beneath reads “MOEN UD DOWLA”. German silver number “7” Is inlet into stock behind cheekpiece. Stock also features drop points and checkered side panels. Checkering at grip is in point pattern at approx 24 LPI with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has horn tip and Deeley fastener. Drop at heel: Approx 2-1/4″, drop at comb: Approx. 2-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 15 oz, LOP 14-3/8″. Plywood case is lined in purple cloth. Accessories include two round pewter oil bottles (one marked “Cogswell and Harrison” and the other “Hawksley”), brass cleaning rod with rosewood handle, and an envelope with extra front sight and assorted screws. CONDITION: Good. Bbls retain most of an old re-black. Engraving is slightly washed, edges slightly rounded. Action has been blacked, and retains most of that blacking. Engraving is washed. Stocks retain most of an old oil finish. Checkering has been re-cut, and is a bit sharp. All wood is slightly under metal. Action is very slightly loose. Ejectors are in time. Bores are fine, bright and shiny with some frosting. Case is good. Oil bottles are good. A wonderful project for the shooting enthusiast. 4-39169 (7,000-9,000)
