SISTER AGNES BERCHMANS (Canadian, 1879-1973) UNVEILING OF THE SHROUD. Large unframed oil on canvas religious scene shows a woman (Veronica) presenting a cloth with Christ depiction to Mary, John and Peter. In the foreground a woman is bowing at the floor and other are in exclamation. The shroud was taken out of a box which a young woman kneels with on the right side. Signed lower right “SR. Agnes Berchmans 1918″. Sister Agnes Berchmans, born Julia Alma Landry, entered the Sisters of Charity while a teenager. Her order, recognizing her talents, sent her to Italy to study with Filadelfo Simi. SIZE: 46-1/2″ x 64-1/2”. PROVENANCE: From a large Boston, MA area Estate.
