*WATSON BROTHERS BOX LOCK EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE. SN 13792. Cal. .450/400 3″. 26″ Dovetailed steel bbls with matted quarter rib, and doll’s head extension are engraved “Watson Bros Gunmakers’.” and “Pall Mall. London.” on tops of bbls. One standing, 2 folding leaf express rear sight has silver lines, and is marked for 100, 200, and 300 yards. Platinum bead front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into raised matted base. Bottoms of bbls are engraved with SN. Bbl flats have Birmingham nitro proofs for 3″ cartridge, 55 grains cordite, and 400 grain bullet. Sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Case hardened action features doll’s head third fastener, bushed strikers, double triggers, and non-automatic tang safety with “SAFE” inlaid in gold. Action is engraved with full coverage of large flowing open shaded scroll with strap work accents. Sides of action are engraved “Watson Bros.” Blued floorplate has matching scroll, and is engraved “Patent Ejector.” Trigger guard has matching scroll and SN at grip. Full pistol grip, slightly figured European walnut buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over red Silvers type pad, and features sling eye, hard rubber grip cap, raised side panels, and 18 LPI checkering with line border. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Drop at heel: Approx. 2-1/16″, drop at comb: Approx 1-5/8″. Weight: 10 lbs. 6 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95% of what appears to be their original blue with some wear on high points, and slight freckling, mostly toward breech. Action retains 50 – 60 % original case color, silvering on fences, and bottom of action. Floorplate and top lever retain a good deal of their original fire blue with some marks on floorplate where screw slots have been “cleaned up.” Trigger guard has some original blue remaining on bow, but is silver through grip. Screw slots show some use. Stocks retain most of their original finish with numerous minor marks and dents from handling and use. Recoil pad is replacement. Checkering shows slight wear. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Top lever is right of center when action is closed. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent, sharp, bright and shiny, with no evidence of cordite erosion. A very fine solid, classic rifle for your next safari, in what is currently a very popular caliber. 4-39326 MGM3 (12,500-17,500)
