EXCEPTIONAL VICTORIAN CARVED WALNUT STEP-BACK BOOKCASE. Circa 1875. The rectangular arched molded cornice surmounted by a pierced leaftip-and-shell-carved crest above the upper case, fitted with a pair of glass-paneled cupboard doors surmounted by leaftip-and-shell-carved elements, stepped back and fitted to the lower case having a pair of square-molded cupboard doors, on a molded plinth. SIZE: 9′ h. x 50″ w. x 20-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Very fine condition overall. Retains original finish, glass panels, and backboards. No restoration noted. Chips and losses around base of plinth (easily restorable). 9-93547 (3,000-5,000)
