WESTLEY RICHARDS HIGHEST QUALITY BOX LOCK WITH ORIGINAL CASE AND ACCESSORIES. SN 13774. Cal. 12ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. Double triggers. Automatic safety. 30″ Dove-tailed Damascus bbls are marked “Westley Richards. 170. New Bond St. London.” “Highest Quality” on the plain concave rib w/ typical Westley Richards dolls head extension. Bottoms of the bbls are marked w/ initials “WR” “J.P” and have Birmingham provisional and definitive black powder proofs: “12B” “13M” “Not for Ball” on the right bbl. The left is marked “12B” and “14M”. Both bbls have SN “13774” (1882) stamped. Case hardened action is marked “Anson & Deeley’s Patent” and “6165” on the water table and is engraved w/ well executed English scroll w/ “Westley Richards” in a riband on both sides of the action. The area in front of the top lever is engraved “Westley Richards” and “Patent” is engraved on the top lever. “Safe” is inlaid in gold in front of the safety button. Floor plate is engraved w/ scroll. Trigger guard has a dog chasing a pair of ducks and SN in an oval surrounded by scroll on the grip. The slightly figured and beautifully streaked English walnut Prince of Wales grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over leather covered pad. It features a vacant silver circle on the end of the grip, checkered side panels w/ drop points, and 18 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. The splinter forend has a Deeley and Edge patent release, a horn tip, and checkering to match buttstock. Bore diameter: left -.739, right -.740. Bore restrictions: left -.034, right -.011. Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.035. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Weight:7 lbs 3oz. Original oak and leather case has dark green baize interior w/ Westley Richards & Co label, instructions for using the Anson and Deeley hammerless gun, and instructions for cleaning. SN 13774 is on a paper dot glued to lid. Accessories include 2 coco bolo handled turn screws, James Dixon ebony handled powder and shot measures, brass and boxwood wad rammer and base, 2-pc ebony cleaning rod, and a bone handled cleaning brush, as well as a wonderful Bridgeport Gun Implement Co number 952 choke cleaner set in its orig keystone shaped box. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain 98%+ of their orig Damascus finish. Bores are bright and shiny, w/very slight pin prick pitting toward the muzzle of the left bbl. The action retains 95%+ of its orig case color, silvering on the edges of the fences. Floor plate, trigger guard and top lever retain virtually all their orig charcoal blue. The stocks retain 98% orig oil finish. Leather covered pad is a new replacement. Case leather is dark w/ numerous scuffs and scratches. One side of the handle is detached. Interior partitions are tight. Cloth is clean. Labels have some rubs and oil stains. Accessories are near new. A truly spectacular example of a gun from this period! 4-35538 MGM41 (7,000-10,000)
