*SCARCE AINSLEY H. FOX CE GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 27342. Fine Philadelphia Fox with 28” Chromox Fluid Compressed Steel bbls choked FULL/IMP-MOD with tapered, concave, matted rib, brass front bead & ivory middle bead with crossbolt rib extension, ejectors & dbl triggers. Mounted with very nicely figured, streaky, French walnut with black insert, checkered, splinter forearm and Prince of Wales rnd knob stock with checkered side panels, 14-1/8” over a serrated hard rubber buttplate. Receiver is engraved in typical C-grade patterns with two quail on left side, two woodcock on right side and a setter on bottom with maker’s name on each side. The thumb lever, trigger bow, forend iron & about 1-3/8” over chamber areas of the bbls are engraved to match. Bore diameter: left – .726, right – .727. Bore restrictions: left – .032, right – .020. Wall thickness: left – .028, right – .029. Drop at heel: 3”, drop at comb: 1-3/4”. Weight: 7 lbs. 2.56 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain 95-97% strong orig blue with some slight thinning over forearm area and light muzzle edge wear. Receiver retains about 75% orig case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, fading to silver toward bottom front. There is a hairline back of top tang and another at rear edge of forearm, otherwise wood is sound showing moderate wear with minor nicks & scratches & retains most of an old added finish, apparently without sanding or freshening the checkering.
