LOCKING PIN, ATTRIBUTED TO BE FROM VON RICHTHOFEN’S PARACHUTE. Locking pin of brightly polished metal, and silver in color, is purported to have come from the quick release buckle of von Richthofen’s parachute harness. Photographs show that parachutes were in use by JG 1 at the time of von Richthofen’s death. In letters to Carisella, Australian witness F. Wormald of No. 3 Sqdn. indicates that a parachute was in von Richthofen’s tri-plane at the crash scene. Carisella received the locking pin from C. Kelaher’s son. An Australian gunner had given Kelaher the pin as a souvenir. A photograph of the locking pin appears on page 237 of Who Killed The Red Baron? CONDITION: As found. SIZE: 3-1/8” long x 3/16” in diameter. From the Collection of the late P. J. Carisella. 4-53508 CW9 (2,000-2,500)
