*FANTASTIC CASED UPGRADED STERLINGWORTH GUN COMPANY DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN TWO BARREL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 53886. Spectacular custom 2-bbl set built on an early “pin gun” with two sets of 30” bbls choked SKEET/SKEET and MOD/MOD. Both have tapered, matted, concave ribs with dbl ivory beads, crossbolt rib extensions, extractors & dbl triggers. Both sets of bbls are marked identically “STERLINGWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL MADE BY” on right bbls and “THE STERLINGWORTH COMPANY – PHILADELPHIA PA. U.S.A”. Mounted with spectacular fiddleback circassian walnut with two beautifully carved & checkered, beavertail forearms and straight stock with raised, carved side panels and carved & checkered, diamond shaped, straight grip, 16” over a checkered butt with heel & toe plates. Bottom of stock has a blank silver oval initial plate. Receiver, all appended metal and about 2” over the chamber areas of the bbls are spectacularly engraved by G.L. Steele and signed on trigger plate. Engraving consists of deep relief oak leaves over most of receiver with three raised, gold acorns on each side and a wonderfully detailed, raised gold fox & a quail on bottom, in a field scene. Triggerguard & thumb lever pad are pierced filed in oak leaf patterns. Top tang has “S” in gold. Engraving on bbl is matching with four raised gold acorns over chamber areas and two more at each side of muzzles. Breech end of bbls have a narrow gold, wire band. Rib extensions have Roman numerals “I” and “II” respectively and the forend iron are numbered “1” and “2” respectively. Heel & toe plates are also engraved to match. Back edges have had extensions welded on so the scallops could be cut into the frame. Very few of these “pin guns” were made in period 1910-1912 under the Sterlingworth Company name, which was simply another iteration of the Philadelphia Shotgun Company by Ansley H. Fox. Accompanied by a fine Merkel, green velvet lined, burgundy leather, trunk case compartmented in bottom for stocked receiver & both sets of bbls with a pair of gold plated, snap caps, a gold plated, square oil bottle, a leather packet of cleaning tools, a 3-pc gold washed, brass & ebony cleaning rod and a covered compartment containing two small turnscrews and a Buck pocket knife with gut hook.
