*SPECTACULAR MERKEL MODEL 447SL DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 480353. Spectacular exhibition quality shotgun made for the 1999 IWA Show in Nurnberg, Germany. This show is a celebrated annual international event which attracts every major manufacturer of firearms & related sporting equipment from literally around the world. The exhibitors take great pains to display only their finest products. Beautiful full sidelock dbl with 26-3/4” bbls choked FULL/MOD with tapered, concave, matted rib, sgl bead, Greener crossbolt rib extension, dbl underbites, ejectors & dbl triggers. It has maker’s name & address with “MADE IN GERMANY” on left side and type of steel on right side. Mounted with extraordinarily beautiful, burl, marblecake, circassian walnut with checkered, spliner forearm & straight hand stock, 14-1/4” over a serrated, black, composition buttplate. It has beautiful case colored receiver & full sidelocks with cocked indicators and about 60% coverage, very fine, foliate arabesque patterns with silver wire inlay around lockplates & receiver. Bottom tang & trigger guard also have silver wire inlay. Accompanied by its orig green cardboard box. Box label states that it was engraved by “OLAF WEISS”, Merkel’s master engraver. Bore diameter: left – .626, right – .627. Bore restrictions: left – .028, right – .015. Wall thickness: left – .031, right – .030. Drop at heel: 2-1/2”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 6 lbs. 4.8 oz. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine, appears to be unfired, retaining all of its orig factory finish to both metal & wood with a heavy coating of dried oil on receiver & lockplates.
